Guidelines

Based on scriptural principles, the student life guidelines are formulated to help students learn how to live with people and develop conduct consistent with a ministerial practice.

A. Student Involvements

To help students focus on their training, students must first get the permission of the school before holding any official responsibility in any church. First year students are not allowed to be involved in external school activities such as youth fellowship, evangelistic teams, prayer groups, or to hold office (e.g. president, chairman, team leader etc.) lest these activities interfere with their studies. Permission is granted only in special cases.

B. Student Attire

The students’ attire should be in principle, simple, neat and clean, conveying an air of professionalism.

Professional attire is required from Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Casual attire is allowed after 5:00 p.m. Students may be requested to be in professional attire even during casual hours when the occasion warrants it.

1. For female students:

No excessive make-up, extra-ordinary and ostentatious outfits. No plunging necklines, strapless or backless tops. Sleeveless tops should not be widely cut under the arms. Skirts should not be shorter than one inch above the knee. Pants are of formal design and properly coordinated with blouse or jacket. Walking short pants are allowed only after the last afternoon class. Hair longer than shoulder length should be neatly groomed.

2. For male students:

Long hair (side burns that are beyond the ears and hair below shirt collars) and beards or mustaches are not allowed.

3. For all students:

a. T-shirts, denim jeans and athletic shoes should not be worn during official class hours (the first morning period up to the last period from Monday to Friday).

b. During special occasions and school functions, students must wear the proper attire of designated uniforms as representatives of the school.

c. Night wear, undergarments and other house dresses should be worn within dormitory perimeters only.

d. Athletic attire should not be revealing. Short shorts, leotards, body huggers, and transparent shirts are not allowed.

e. Slippers are allowed only after the last afternoon class.

f. The overall rule is that casual dress differs from professional dress in the degree of formality, not in the degree of modesty. A basic rule is that nothing should be worn on campus for casual wear that one would not feel comfortable wearing in a public place (such as the shopping mall).

g. Modest T-shirts and polo shirts - No halter tops, undershirt, sleeveless T-shirts, and other forms of underwear are not allowed. Sleeveless athletic shirts (like those in basketball uniforms) may be used by men only for PE but not for casual wear, sweaty Athletic clothing will not be allowed for casual wear.

C. Personal Hygiene/Sanitation

1. Students should observe good personal hygiene. Students should wash and clean often to prevent bad breath and body odor.

2. Students are to practice public sanitation.

a. Flush toilets after every use. Sanitary napkins and hard paper should not be thrown into the toilet bowl. Be thrifty in using toilet paper and switch lights off upon leaving.

b. Keep dorm room clean and orderly every day.

D. Absences and Tardiness

To develop good habits and testimonies, students are to be prompt and responsible in all activities.

1. Resident Students

a. Students leaving the seminary compound should first secure permission from the Dean of Student Affairs. In his absence, permission may be acquired from the Dean of Dormitories or other faculty members. The official on-campus hours for resident students begins at 10:00 p.m. on Sundays through Fridays after lunch. Students who cannot comply with the prescribed schedule should obtain approval from the Dean of Student Affairs two days before the date of intended absence.

b. Approval for nonparticipation in any of the extra-curricular activities e.g. chapel hours, choir practice, cleaning or exercise periods, or during library study period should obtained from the Dean of Student Affairs. The requirement to participate in athletic activities is waived for students above fifty years old.

2. For All Students
Permission to be absent from a class should be secured first from the Dean of Student Affairs and the instructor(s) concerned. After an absence, excuse slips must be presented to and signed by the instructors. Reasons must be clearly explained, if prior notice is not possible. In case of illness, prior notice may be channeled through another student, and the excuse slip presented the next class period.

E. Speech and Conduct

1. In the body life of seminary training, mutual respect, speech that builds up another and conduct that glorifies God are indispensable to growth and harmony.

2. Students should show proper respect and submissiveness toward all teachers and staff, and they should be willing to be taught and guided as well. They should also practice love and helpfulness toward fellow students, each maintaining an exemplary character and lifestyle.

3. Great care should be given to one’s speech. Avoid indiscreet criticisms, judgment, and gossips as well as all other forms of conversations and words that dishonor the Name of the Lord and the reputation of the seminary.

1. Meals

a. Resident students are required to take meals in the seminary. Married students are required to take lunch only in the campus.
