Ph.D. in Ministerial Studies
The Ph.D. in Ministerial Studies program builds on an M.Div. and is intended for those who are already actively involved in church or parachurch ministry.

Program Emphases
Advanced training in the practice of ministry: The program is designed for students who are actively involved in ministry and in serving the church, with the goal of helping them to function in that role more effectively.
Development of an area of expertise and research: The program especially highlights three areas of study: pastoral leadership and administration, pastoral care and discipleship, and expository preaching.
Church leadership within an Asian context: The program emphasizes the need to equip church leaders for the unique opportunities and challenges of serving the rapidly growing church in Asia.
Program Requirements
The Ph.D. in Ministerial Studies program includes 11 courses, comprehensive exams, and the successful defense of a dissertation. Among the 11 courses, students must take at least two on subjects related to pastoral leadership and administration, two on subjects related to pastoral care and discipleship, two on subjects related to expository preaching, and one on research methods.
Admissions
Entrance into the Ph.D. in Ministerial Studies program is competitive, since there are only a limited number of spots that are available for students to begin the program each school year. Every effort will be made by the school to accept the most highly qualified applicants. Therefore, acceptance into the program depends on more than simply meeting the basic qualifications. Applicants should keep the competitive nature of the program in mind as they complete the application procedure.
